New Zealand: do transit visitors also need to apply for an NZeTA?

Travellers who are citizens of a country with a visa waiver or transit visa need an NZeTA to transit through Auckland airport only, before continuing their journey.

The countries benefiting from a visa exemption or transit visa are as follows (and therefore require an NZeTA Transit):

  • All travellers whose destination is Australia
  • All European Union countries 🇪🇺
  • Andorra

  • Brunei
  • Canada
  • Chile

  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • Kuwait
  • Liechtenstein
